About
Ao Marama Retreat is a family run retreat nestled in regenerating native bush over-looking the stunning expanse of Golden Bay. We use organic and permaculture based principles to grow food, raise animals and look after the land. We welcome and accommodate couples, private groups, retreats and people who'd like to volunteer on the retreat.
Key Information
The retreat is home to a multitude of dwellings, including 6 bookable cabins, and one yurt. All set in secluded bush with ocean views and each with individual style and charm, its perfect for larger groups looking for a secluded getaway.
The cabins are all serviced by an outdoor kitchen, newly refurbished and fully equipped with gas cookers, fridge and freezer, and every pot, pat, bowl and piece of cutlery you'd ever need. In addition we have a bbq by the kitchen as well as one on the sundeck.
Travel Note
Farewell Spit: From Ao Marama, it’s a short and easy drive to Farewell Spit. The top of the south. The views are something you need to experience once in your lifetime. Note: A trip to Farewell Spit isn’t as treacherous as you think. Its do-able for even the most novice of climbers - about a 10 minutes ascent. The views are almost too good for the short ascent.
Wild West Coast: By car, head out to the far west coast to experience ‘No Man’s Land’ the gravel road paved by markers takes you down a coastal highway running parallel to the seaside. See the unique nikau palm forest and drive all the way till you reach the beach at the end. Stunningly beautiful at every turn, you’ll discover the best moments here don’t come at any cost.
