This off the grid cabin is located in Kawakawa, Taupo. With rolling hills behind you and a picturesque night sky above, it’s one of those escapes that fall under the ‘do nothing, feel good about doing nothing’ category. The Hut provides a simple but comfy getaway for two in a beautiful countryside. Whether you are in need of an affordable place as a stopover whilst driving the North Island, on a road trip or in need of a longer stay to explore Taupo, Kawakawa Hut will cater to all your needs.
Key Information
Kawakawa Hut is a simple, comfy space with everything you need in one room. The hut has been positioned to the North with windows on all sides to maximise the winter sunlight and provide views of the surrounding farmland.The basic kitchen & bar make for a great area for enjoying food and drinks while looking out at Mt Ruapehu. A BBQ is just outside. The kitchen has a camp style gas cooker, and a motorhome style fridge/freezer. Kawakawa is family friendly and pet friendly too, so bring your tail wagging friend along for the ride.
Note: The hut is off grid and runs off batteries so USB charging is provided and mains powerpoints can be used through an inverter but care needs to be taken to not drain the batteries. No Wifi either but there is good cellphone coverage. We recommend you get back to basics and unwind here.
Travel Note
We highly recommend The Store House for excellent coffee & breakfast, The Brantry and The Vine for fine dining. Geothermal wonders like the Wairakei Terraces hot pools and the Orakei Korako Cave and Thermal Park. Or hit the winter slopes at Whakapapa Ski Resort, hour & 45 minutes away.
