A cabin on a hillside made of gold in historic Bendigo, the best-kept secret in Central Otago. Surrounded by vineyards on a rustic landscape steeped in gold mining history. A half hour dive from Wanaka, there's much to explore from walks to wineries. Pour yourself a glass of vino, soak in the outdoor tub and be awed by the panoramic views and the starry night sky, you'll never want to leave.


Key Information

The cabin is architecturally designed to have a small environmental footprint and sit in harmony with the natural landscape. The cabin sleeps two guests comfortably in a Queen bed, with a full en-suite, kitchenette, wood burner and modern furnishings. The cabin has sliding doors that open out onto your decks that look over the panoramic surrounding views. On the bottom deck there is a sunken outdoor bath for you to soak all your worries away in. The night sky is something wonderful to behold here away from light pollution and if you're lucky, you may even glimpse the magical Southern Lights in all their glory.


Travel Tip

Recommend arrival during daylight hours. There are no street lights as they are in a rural area. There is a head torch provided in the cabin. Bendigo is the perfect base to explore everything Central Otago has to offer.

  • Visit Scott Base, Wooing Tree or The Stoaker Room for a platter and wine tasting.

  • On Sundays stroll historic old town and visit the farmers market to taste some local wares.

  • 5-minutes further up the road is the desert wine region of Bannockburn where you can sample wine to your hearts desire at the boutique wineries, walk the hilly mining tailings then have a long lunch at the historic Bannockburn Hotel.

  • 30-minutes through the impressive sheer-sided Dunstan gorge is the town of Clyde with a range of cafes, restaurants, shops and a boutique cinema. Here you can also hire bikes and cruise alongside the Clutha river to the town of Alexandra.

  • Turn left before Clyde into the wide open landscape of the beautiful Manuherikia Valley. There are a number of historic pubs along the road where you can stop for a cold beer and chat with the locals.

  • Take a day trip to the hussle and bussle of Queenstown (50-minutes), making sure you stop in at the famous Gibbston Valley wine region on the way and then bypass through quaint Arrowtown to take a stroll down it’s famous main street.

  • The resort town of Wanaka is a 35-minute drive where you can walk the lakefront, climb insta famous Roy’s Peak, ski the hills in Winter or indulge in some boutique shopping.
