The Nest 5 | Sustainable Fashion Labels To Follow This Year
By Nest Journal
Its the way of the future. Fast fashion is out. Recycled and sustainable fashion is well and truely in and here to stay. It seems obvious that we should be supporting local brands anytime we have the itch for a new dress or pair of shoes.. but we often get mislead by the difficultly of finding where to look. We’ve gone and put together a list of our favourite sustainable fashion labels to follow so next time you think about popping into H&M, you’ll think again. All labels are local to NZ and Aus and are made with locally sourced materials.
Hara The Label
Not only do these guys photograph their pieces on beautiful bodies that look like real bodies *ahem Victoria’s Secret ahem* but they know the female figure and work their sewing magic in a way that actually works for all body types. Hara use their label as a platform to bring change, awareness and education to the issues within the fashion industry. I own three sets of Hara undies and I cannot stress how comfortable they are. They come in a range of the most amazing colours and if you’re like me, you’ll want to own one of each and cycle through them every week.

Frisson Knits
Charlotte Jennings has shot into fashion stardom with her new line of Mohair knits. You only have to look at one to know the amount of time and care that went into each piece. They also feel like no knit you’ve ever worn before. Using exclusively Mohair (from goats.. not sheep!) and Perendale Lamb's Wool from New Zealand, each piece is unique and durable. The wool used is particularly eco-friendly, being naturally warm and water-resistant. The wool is spun to trap air in the fibres for extra warmth.
The meticulous craft put into each knit means you are buying a product that will last you a lifetime.. so long as you look after it. You can shop for your next wardrobe staple winter knit here
Maggie Marilyn
One of our favourite fashion labels, Maggie Marilyn, is a pioneer in the sustainable fashion industry in NZ. Their vision is strong and direct - to create a fashion industry that is transparent, circular, regenerative and inclusive. They structure their ethos around sustainability and making sure their footprint is light. You can read about their journey into making circular and regenerative fashion and shop directly through their site here
Marle
You know that perfect flow-y dress you've always wanted but never been able to find? Well, have I got good news for you. Marle are the real deal when it comes to perfect silhouette design x sustainability. Breaking down the constructs of traditional seasons through the design of timeless essentials, the Marle aesthetic combines simple silhouettes and neutral colour palettes elevated by unique textural characteristics.
With consciousness at the heart of Marle, each piece is designed with intention, quality and longevity in mind and the belief that Marle will have lasting relevance within the wardrobes of all women.
