New Zealand Designers to Keep an Eye on in 2021
By Sarah Norris | June, 2021
When it comes to talking about how to shift our way out of fast fashion and into a more sustainable way of buying and making clothing, we want to open up the floor to a new wave of designers who are producing custom made pieces or creating timeless garments from dead stock fabrics. They're paving the way for how fashion will look in the future. Its less about churning out double digit seasons a year and more about crafting timeless pieces that will hold their place in your wardrobe for years to come. We've been circling the waters looking at some up and coming designers and some that have been honing their craft, but all have caught our eye in the early months of 2021. These garments come with their own stories to tell, and each made with attentive care and skill.
Molly Perkinsons
Head designer Lulu has been honing her craft for a while, but she’s caught our eye this year. Her garments are all custom made and hand crafted to fit your measurements. Her gingham ‘Zero Waste’ dress having only 7 available, means you’ll own an outfit only only in the hands of 6 others. Thats enough we need to hear for us to eagerly await her next custom piece, to be sure we don’t miss out. Her new silk suit number is dropping and will be available exclusively through @thatlooks.
To check out the amazing range of limited pieces available, check her out here or on her instagram above.
Pecchenino
Only a handful of images are floating around online but we're already desperate to get our hands on one of these custom made skirts by Pecchenino.
Founder Francesca has been hard at work designing a range of striking bold skirts, using Pantone names like Tangerine and Citrine .. its hard not to feel like these pieces will be a sought after item in any closet this year.
Its the keen eye that Francesca has for perfect block colour and her understanding of the feminine silhouette that we think will make her range one not to miss.
Make sure you’re following Francesca to be sure you don’t miss the first drop @francescapecchenino
IDAE
Idae knows the female figure in a way that only few do. Their designs are practical yet empower the figure in a gracious and alluring way.
The dress cuts are feminine yet hold finite detail of the typical high cut masculine line. We think its the perfect combination of style and beauty.
We’re anticipating the new season to be a big one, so make sure you’re following their journey here.
All garments made in NZ.
Eliza Perry
With only 5 pieces online and a handful of carefully curated images circling her brand, we were immediately hooked like bait on a lure when we stumbled across her collection a few months ago. We are so eager to follow her next chapter that she’s one of the only instagrams we’ve turned on our notifications for. (no joke)
We’re keeping our eyes peeled for what Eliza Perry has in store next. Check out her highly aesthetically pleasing instagram here or shop her exclusively limited collection here.
Florence Eugénie
Florence Eugénie is a new comer in the industry but is already finding her own style and honing in on it with clear direction and producing consistently good pieces. We are obsessed with her swimwear range and can see why others are noticing her talents too,
The colours are bold, electric and full of personality. The cuts are made from dead stock fabric and each item is cut and sewn by local machinists. The dresses in the collection are equally as elegant and classically chic.
