HOTEL FEATURE: THE CONVENT HOTEL

In the heart of Auckland City, a stunning 1920’s Spanish mission styled building sits. The Convent Hotel (@theconvent_hotel) once a catholic convent, now fully restored as a boutique hotel and in house restaurant.

The impressive, Spanish mission-style building was built in 1922 and was home to St Joseph’s Convent until 1993. In recent years the building fell into disrepair, until being purchased by developer Andy Davies (of Ponsonby Central fame), who has lovingly restored the building, in another glowing example of the magic a well-intentioned developer can bestow on the city.

There are 6 suites all with their own character and charm. The high ceilings, exposed brick, and archways are flawless in execution, giving a nod to the old heritage building that once donned the same features. Ada, the restaurant, a well suited match to the building it calls home. The menu is stripped back with classic dishes ~ refined and delicate but flavours that sing true to its Italian roots. Taking walk in’s and large group bookings, @ada_akl is worth the trip alone. The rooms are fairly priced for a nights stay, however booking here requires some planning ahead as the rooms do fill a few weeks in advance. Save this for a birthday getaway or an anniversary weekend.
